I was a greenhorn-Christian of only six weeks standing when I answered an invitation to go forward for healing at a Weston Carryer meeting at Foxton in June 1991. I was far from sure what might, or could, happen. I had three problems. I harboured a lot of hatred against my stepfather for all the ill-treatment dished out to me as a child. I knew I had to forgive if I wanted to walk the path Jesus trod.
I also had rheumatoid arthritis in both hips, and an affliction in which the skin grows over the discs of the spinal cord and would have, in time, made my back as stiff as a board. When Weston prayed over me I was slain in the Spirit. I felt the Holy Spirit wrestling, as if it were a demon, with a ball in my stomach, pushing it over to the left side, then with tremendous force, pulling it down the inside of my left leg and driving it out through my left foot. There was no pain.
When I sat down I felt so warm inside and so full of love. Hate was gone. Apart from touches in my right hip, the arthritis has gone. Prayer will do the rest. Weston gave my wife a passage to read, and that night she did so aloud. My backbone began to wriggle up and down and I could feel the skin being pulled free from the joints. I said, “The Lord’s working on me again.” At its end, I jumped out of bed and touched my toes, something I had not done for a very long time.
I thank God He has set me free both in body and soul.
